Emerging technologies are profoundly changing the way we live, communicate, work, and learn. Radical transformations are occurring in all sectors, along with drastic challenges facing humanity and targeted under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Thus, there is a need for educational institutions to equip students with knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values they need to become active, responsible, and engaged citizens, capable of finding better solutions to global problems.
However, education systems have not kept pace with the changing landscape of technology innovation. Without strategic solutions, we will reach a critical tipping point. Therefore, we need to implement SDG-aligned educational approaches, develop curricula, build effective learning environments, and empower educators.
Aware of these facts, a group of Lebanese education specialists founded STEAMcode, an educational institution dedicated to promoting a philosophy of STEAM and coding as well as enhancing the teaching-learning process. STEAMcode provides a STEAM-based learning curriculum, centered on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in addition to coding, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT). It is designed to fit the national curriculum and to be implemented in schools as a discipline to make learning more engaging and pertinent.
Our mission is to develop learners’ 21st century skills by providing access to high-quality, holistic STEAM focused program. We achieve this through our learner-centered curriculum, inquiry-based learning environment, effective professional development for educators, innovative resources, and creative tools.
To inspire every educator and learner in the world of STEAM education and innovation.
STEAMcode students have the opportunity to participate in national, regional, and international competitions where they demonstrate their talents and skills in STEAM, coding and Robotics. STEAM competitions allow students to solve a specific real-world problem through multidisciplinary approach.
Additionally, STEAMcode students have the privilege to participate in the STEAMcode national Olympiad which is the biggest STEAM competition organized by STEAMcode team in Lebanon. For 6 months, students create technological innovations and present their innovations to a jury. The presented projects are judged based on the innovative aspects, the applied engineering approach, and the teamwork. The best projects win a grant from different partners.
Such competitions have proven to be significant for the participants in terms of developing the 21st century skills of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, technology literacy, and social-emotional development.
Students who integrate STEAMcode learning will have what it takes to:
These are the pioneers, scientists, philosophers, experts, and leaders of the 21st century!
